Even fifteen years after their careers serving on the Enterprise, I like to imagine that Spock and McCoy still always kept in touch, and enjoyed meeting each other to discuss things like recent scientific findings and events, to sportingly argue with each other on their differing philosophical opinions, and to fondly go over their memories of their adventures on the Enterprise and of Kirk. (I also like to think their relationship mellowed out a lot more, especially as in his older age Spock became more embracing of his human side.)
