For Sycamore/Lysandre from Pokemon XY... Lysandre is most likely either dead or immortal (the game is a little on the ambiguous side), Sycamore is probably still Kalos Pokemon Professor. If Lysandre is dead (in Y), then hopefully Sycamore has moved on and doesn't still feel guilty about it. If he's immortal (in X), then I'd like to think that they would have met again and hopefully reconciled, although that's also kind of shitty because Lysandre would invariably outlive Sycamore (and his conversation with Diantha earlier in the game hints that he's probably freaked out by aging anyway).

I tend to take a third scenario and find a way for Lysandre to have survived but not be immortal, heh.
