I think the best way to deal with this is to recognize that these people just don't understand, and are under the impression that rape fic is all about getting jollies out of the idea of degrading and dehumanizing someone or thinking it would be cool IRL, rather than the complex and counterintuitive but highly effective psychological trick it is -- rape fanfic is nearly the diametrical opposite of exploitative rape porn, especially when it's from the victim's POV.

Wellllllll some of it is just about getting your jollies off to degrading someone. Which is a problem some people may have.

Yup, some of it is. But I've seen a lot that is actual more about the exploration of trauma that about titillation. And/or it being the "hurt" part of a hurt/comfort fic. I do find the psychology of it fascinating.

And what's wrong with that? We're talking about fictional characters here, not real people. What if I want to fantasize about torturing, killing and then raping Sherlock? Yeah, it's fucked up, but no one is harmed, it's just a fantasy.

I can see how non-con fic can be cathartic even if I personally don't like it and steer clear from fics with non/dubcon labels. I guess because it is such a sensitive subject, it's really easy for people to jump to conclusions about the author's views on rape/non-con or what their intentions were when writing these fics.
