He has gravitas.

Also, in terms of his performance, he can be very still. Especially in comparison to Tennant and Smith, who were highly expansive physical actors who dominated the screen through motion, Capaldi wants to do it through sheer presence, through being the unmoving center around which the rest of the scene moves. I really like it.

You have a point! Both Tennant and Smith were constantly moving around; Capaldi is very different in that regard. (But he still demands your attention.)

That is a fantastic way to describe his style. Physically, he's...controlled, almost austere, but you can sense him smoldering beneath that, and it's really quite magnetic.
