Re: 27: A theory on all the recent yaoi posts

...Your logic does not make sense to me. I post an opinion. People respond telling me to ignore the yaoi if it bothers me so much. I wonder, if those people can't ignore my one bitty secret in the middle of 40+ more, where do they get off telling me to ignore what appears to be 90% of fandom? Because it does work both ways. If I have to ignore the opinions of yaoi fans, then why do yaoi fans not have to ignore my opinion?

Onto a more serious topic. Search features fail. If I want het or worse, gen fic featuring a male character, character filters don't work. And most archives don't actually let you filter out the type of pairing yet.

Um, they're responding to your secret because that's what this community is for, last I checked. If you don't want responses, or you can't ignore responses you don't like? Don't post. There are plenty of secrets I refuse to post for that very reason.

Search features: then you're doing it wrong. FF.net's archive lets you search by genre and character -- by two characters even! Which is more or less searching by pairing the way most users submit -- in certain categories, and I've found it very, very useful for filtering out pairings I don't want to read. The trick is using as many filters as possible on the first pass, then eliminating filters if you don't get as many results as you want. No, it isn't perfect, but it does filter out most of the crap you're not interested in.

With LJ? There's no excuse at all. You can find whole communities for genfic quite easily using the interests search, as well as communities for specific pairings if you're so inclined.

And with Google, quotes and elimination/inclusion indicators (-/+, respectively) are your best friends.

*yawn*

You are entitled to post your opinion and people are entitled to comment on it. if you wish to try to turn the argument of 'scroll on by' back on people perhaps it would work best IF YOU DID IT FIRST.

then we wouldn't even have your opinion to have to scroll by.

eating your tail yet?

...But I did not tell people to ignore anything. Why would I eat anything?

Actually, I am enjoying the polite responses to my secret. Even the ones who disagree with me. It is most satisfying to have an intelligent debate, after all.

well someone who seems to enjoy posting and making it sound like it's you is going around "*gurglegurgle* ain't if funny how all these people telling me to ignore it aren't doing what they are telling me to do and ignorning me?"

Wait, are you actually complaining that you have to see and/or know that male/male stuff exists? Because, uh, all that doesn't actually prevent you from finding what you want.

(Anonymous) 2007-12-12 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
No. I am saying that search filters fail at filtering in the stuff I am looking for.

No search delivers perfect results. I mean, they don't give me fucking beautifully plotted stories with just the right touch of of dialogue/sex/pretension/zombies... but then we can't have everything, can we?

Re: 27: A theory on all the recent yaoi posts

(Anonymous) 2007-12-12 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, but it would be very nice. And it would save me a lot of time. Especially if I could also specify dialogue level and zombies and excting fight scenes.
