Buffy and Angel are aimed at different demographics, and even if they operate in the same universe, one is a teenage/Drama/Comedy and the other is a Drama show with some comedy thrown in once in a while* so I understand why you would like one and not the other.

It's like liking House MD but not Scrubs, both are medical shows, but beyond that they don't share a lot beyond that except grumpy main character.

*I can't be arsed to go deeper into the genres and such, believe me I could.

Basically this. I've been able to get through all of Angel multiple times and enjoy it, but re-watching the first season of Buffy once I was out of my teen years was like pulling teeth. I still consider it, especially certain episodes, really excellent, though.

Buffy begins it's life set in a high school. That's enough reason not to be interested in it, even if the show changes in scope later. Plus, we all like or dislike shows for petty or minor reasons sometimes; I don't like Angel's show because I hate the actor who plays him, but that doesn't reflect on me as a person, not really.

... and I'm a variant who can't stand DB either and couldn't get into AtS at all -- but I love BtVS and have been known to watch Season 5 of Angel now and again.

Each to their own. I'm the other way around. I love BtVS, but Angel is just not really my thing. I like the first couple of seasons, but after that....eh. :(

I enjoyed both but it took me longer to get into Angel, unlike Buffy which I loved pretty much from the get go.

It says you like AtS and not BtVS. It's not required to love or even like BtVS in order to love AtS.

Nothing wrong with that. I'm mostly the opposite. While I like some of the Angel-specific characters and liked parts of Angel, on the whole I dislike or am meh about a lot of it and rarely rewatch Angel.

the vibe was so different, I was never into either but I'd watch Angel sometimes when there was nothing else on- I could never make it through Buffy, something about it annoyed me too much

I hated the dialogue in Buffy, and I couldn't get past it. :/

Yeah, what everybody said. Some fans like both shows equally but most have a preference for one or the other!

It says that you like Angel better than Buffy and that's okay. I watched both and Buffy was a bit more campy, while Angel was trying to go for mature. It's fine, OP. Don't worry too much about it.

I'm the same. For me it's simply because I'm just not a fan of teenage drama/high school comedy, which BtVS was.

And Angel > BtVS. So no worries, OP. I mean, I don't hate it, and I know that not liking Buffy is more a minority opinion within the dual fandom, but you're good.

It does, however, have some great eps. Perhaps it'll grow on you one day.

I was about the age Buffy was when I started watching Buffy, and I noticed that I ended up liking Angel a lot better when it was on the air and I think it had a lot to do with how from the start Angel was more directed to an adult audience. Buffy was growing up too, but it was more "growing pains" especially in the last seasons.

I will always hold Buffy near and dear to my heart but I can see having a preference for Angel, as others have said the tones are different and despite being the same universe, you can completely be into one and not the other.

(And plus Angel the character was so much better on Angel too.)

Some people like Frasier, but don't really care for Cheers. Some people like Stargate Atlantis, but can't get into Stargate SG-1 (I like both, but as much as they have in common, the shows have different vibes). Some people like Deep Space Nine or Voyager, but aren't in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

I adore BtVS, but I think Angel is the superior series, if only marginally so. Maybe give it a few years and revisit Buffy.

Meh. Different strokes for different folks, and so on and so on and scooby dooby doo.

(I love both. Probably Buffy more, Angel took a while to get me to reeeally love it, but when it found its [weird, heartbreaking] feet it grew into a truly wonderful thing)
