'No Good Deed' is indeed a superior 'fuck everyone' ballad, but I don't think 'Let It Go' was supposed to be a 'fuck everyone' ballad. It was a 'I'm not pretending anymore' ballad.

Also, if you're wondering about their relative popularity, 'No Good Deed' is a lot more plot-specific in its lyrics and thus less generally applicable.

Defying Gravity though.

I don't know much about Wicked, but that was the "I'M DEFYING GRAVITY /MIDDLE FINGERS FROM THE BROOM" song.

You should let it go, OP.

I like 'Let it Go' (although not to the point many seem to) but now I'm going to have to give this song a listen. Thanks!

Upthread anon is right, 'Defying Gravity' is more comparable.

Ah, that might be so, but I've already heard (and loved!) that one. Haven't heard the one OP mentioned. (Though I do agree it probably is way more fitting for the story.)

HIMARUYA BB COME BACK!

That said... are they now? I haven't visited the comm in ages (barely peeked around tbh), but honestly I'm not surprised. It's been almost a year (a whole year by the end of October?) since we last heard about Himaruya, there's no new material coming out and we haven't gotten any news of him. It's like Hima just went POOF after leaving us hanging with the last Halloween event. He did the same with the Christmas one, and goodness knows what he's doing now.

Ah, I turned your secret into a 'rant' thing sorry.

Just give em time and whenever we get more of the source material, things will go back to normal.

"Let It Go" wasn't a fuck everyone song, tho.

She's not saying fuck the world, steeped in her bitterness. It's all about how she's not pretending anymore. If you'd compared it to Defying Gravity (stiiiiiill not entirely comparable since that's about no longer doing what people ask in the vain attempt to be loved).

I admittedly interpreted Let It Go to be Elsa trying to convince herself that her exile is a good thing and only sort of succeeding. That's at least what I tell myself to explain why the song is pretty underwhelming for being a Let Loose and Be Empowered song.

NYART

I always interpreted Let It Go in a similiar way - like she's accepted her powers as long as no one else is around to see or get hurt. Still a far cry from where she's terrified about them even when she's alone in a room, like earlier in the movie, but still a long way to go before she's really accepted her powers (which only happens right near the end of the movie).

She only really accepts them after believing it's possible to undo them. Not terribly surprising.

AYRT

I didn't think it was so much "believing she could undo them" as it was "believing she's in control of them and can use them how she wants." Earlier in the film it's pretty clear that she doesn't have that control (she keeps icing things without meaning to). At the end, I think it's implied she's at least heading towards more precise control (if not already there), which in turn lets her enjoy her powers again instead of fearing them - hence the harkening back to her childhood days in creating that ice rink.

No, she had a realization that she can control it, that they aren't something to be feared, and she's not totally alone.
