Do you think Tumblr would survive if they ever banned xkit?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-06 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
(I made this question in yesterday's thread when it was too late, so I'm repeating it here)

I honestly don't know how if I could stand Tumblr without xkit (bless that guy), and Tumblr staff don't seem to be particularly effective when it comes to having a nice functional site going. Thoughts?

Hell no.

Sure. The majority of tumblr is reblogging pictures or photos, and they managed just fine when Missing e and Xkit crashed a while back. I think they'd adjust, but possibly fandom would relocate again.

I use it without, so yeah.

well I would delete and never come back

Sure. There are alternatives. Tumblr Savior isn't as fancy, but it'd do for the basics. If they banned all the blacklist extensions, it would probably survive, but it would not be a happy thing.

I don't use xkit so I dunno.

Considering I had to go without it for (yes, just) two hours while I worked out why it wasn't updating (my scriptblocker) and it was pretty damn terrible....maybe not.

Chrome suddenly got a bug yesterday and it fucked up the fonts and now I'm using Opera but it will not install xkit at all.it's hell without it.

what does xkit even do besides giving us the option to reblog faster and the multiple-tag thing.

blacklist, better inbox that as an outbox feature, eliminates annoying tumblr 'features', search your likes, load all image (no more clicking to see images in text posts), lets you make your own tag clusters so you can just select and go, post blocking (for when your tired of the same post over and over), muting (want to see someone photo reblogs but not their text posts? want to unfollow someone but it would be social awkward?), download music posts, reblog as text (no more text posts reblogging themselves as links), and a ton of other features that can make tumblr much more enjoyable.

Until this moment, I didn't even know it existed.

I hadn't known about XKit until the last day or so, and I've used Tumblr for years.

It would at first before starting to crumble under its own weight. Then they would find another platform to move on.

I mainly use the Android app, so... I imagine there's enough people who don't use it. I think tumblr would be okay. (I don't think they would ban it though. Hopefully not; it makes a lot of people's tumblr experience more pleasant.)

However I DO like the sound of xkit and tumblr Savior, but since the app is more convenient for me I haven't tried it yet.

The xkit guy is apparently eventually going to make an android app version of it too. (But right now there's only an iphone one.)

Ooo, thank you for that piece of information! Maybe I should set up Google alerts for it; it seems like something I would be interested in.

Well, my computer doesn't get along with browser extensions, so I don't use them, but I barely go on Tumblr, anyway.

I think it would work for a short while, but ultimately if the Tumblr staff didn't man up and fix Tumblr themselves, fandom would either generate its own extensions or just relocate again (maybe back to a journal site, hopefully? *one can dream*)

Well, considering I mostly use mobile now, they probably would.

Sure. I mean, I'm sure some people would definitely stop using tumblr, but I doubt it would kill the site. I've never once used xkit and I get along just fine
