Here you go! It's a Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy VII crossover, which are both generally fairly optimistic canons! But this fic is a backstory to how the FFVII characters who show up fighting the heartless in KH lost their world in the first place, and everything about it is beautiful misery.

I've read it... four times now, I think? and I have yet to make it through the first chapter, let alone the story, without crying. It's got probably the best Yuffie-voice I've ever read, and its take on Cloud's personality is exquisitely horrific.
