I always ask the person behind me if they mind, I don't just do it.

I had an asshole recline and break my laptop once. He tried to claim it was my fault for "putting it there" but how was I supposed to know he was going to jerk his seat back? Asshole had to pay to replace my laptop and it put me in a bad position at my job because I was working on an important power point presentation.
