Re: What makes you skip a fic?

Word count. I don't have the attention span for long fics anymore.

I'm just the opposite, if it is under 15000 words then I'll wait until it gets there so there is a bit of meat on the story.

That's really...not how a lot of one-shot fics work. Some stories are just meant to be a short one-chapter fic about making a single streamlined point, and added length would completely ruin the whole story.

I don't read many fledgling WIPs either, though, unless it just looks too fascinating to resist. I've been disappointed too often.

I'm the opposite. Less than 1000 words on ff.net and I won't look at it unless I love you as an author. Even on AO3, unless I know you, I won't look at short works.

But that's because I can't feel enough in that short of a burst generally and I like to sink in to a good fic, like a good book.

I prefer a range. I don't read fics that are shorter than 10,000 words or longer than 80,000. It saves me a lot of time, because the vast majority of fics can be skipped.

Long WIPs with no sign of wrapping up any time soon worry me. It's not jsut "will I ever see the end of this?", it's "how well can this thing be plotted out?".
