Re: What makes you skip a fic?

* Badly misspelled summaries with poor grammar. I don't expect everything to be perfect, but if it looks like they haven't bothered to proofread their own summary, there's no way I'm slogging through an entire fic written like that.

* Cutesy tags, or tags that are commentary instead of actual useful information.

* Cutesy disclaimers: "[character] isn't mine, but I wish he was, hur hur hur..."

* "I suck at summaries, just read the fic!" No. If you want people to invest time in your fic, write a damn summary. Just because it's difficult doesn't mean you can skip it, and if that's how you feel, your story is probably terrible.

* Gushing on about your "muse", or worse, having one of the characters be your muse.

* Telling me someone is OOC. Jesus, why bother? I mean, thanks for the warning, I guess, but it's like saying, "Here is my crappy fic, please read it." If you don't take the time to write something good, why should other people take the time to read it?

* Character bashing. If you can't make the case for your ship without tearing down other characters, that's just bad writing and I don't want any.

* AUs. Almost all of 'em are skippable, unless the rest of the summary makes a really compelling case for them. But not high school AUs because they suck balls.
