Which songs remind you of a character/ship/fandom and why?

I have a feeling this season of Teen Wolf will be very appropriate with Imagine Dragons "Monster"

"Fast car" by Tracy Chapman always reminds me of Lilly Rush (Cold Case) and her relationship with Ray. You just have to replace the car with a motorcycle and the alcoholic dad with an alcoholic mum and it fits perfectly.

Also "Oh my" by Gin Wigmoore is inseparably linked with the movie Suckerpunch since I saw a fanvid that used this song.

Like The Sun - I Mother Earth

Reminds me of bygone fandom, since I used it for a fandom mix once. It still really makes sense for the particular fandom, lyrically.

Same fandom also lays claim to Enigma's Gravity of Love, which is an excellent song which was once used for a cosplay skit.

Nothing else quite reaches the same level, though I'm ashamed to admit that Umbrella by Rhianna reminds me of a certain ship, because it's SO INAPPROPRIATE holy fuck I don't even.

Oh man I wanna know what ship it is!

Aw don't worry about it, we're all friends here! :D And most shippers have had ships they feel silly about.

This is kind of an odd one, but I think of "Queenie Eye" as Discord's theme song. It gives the feeling of a playful trickster who's not really good, but not entirely evil either.

Edit: almost forgot. The first time I heard "You Are the Moon," I thought it was a filk song about Princess Luna. I couldn't believe it was unrelated.

All of them. The fandom that pops into my mind first when I hear any song usually just depends on how recently I've been thinking/talking/reading about them.

"You've Got a Friend In Me" from Toy Story is A+ for all my favorite fictional friendships ever.

Also "Cuz I Can" by Pink doesn't remind me of James Bond, it literally IS James Bond. Even though it's sung by a woman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O-tbNwNYcw

"Cherub Rock" by the Smashing Pumpkins reminds me of Battlestar Galactica, and I honestly have no idea why.

"Next to Me" by Emeli Sande reminds me of the Wheel of Time. The first part, where it's like "you won't find him drinking at the tables / rolling dice and staying out til 3" makes me think of Mat everrrry time. And I'm like "hahahaha Mat will never stop being a cad, Tuon, quit while you're ahead" (but we all know she likes him that way, so, you know, it's all good).

The refrain of "Turn Me On" by Nicki Minaj reminds me of Keshiel's Dart, because Phedre is all about saving lives with sex, yo.

"Take Me to Church" by Hozier reminds me of Bioshock Infinite. It doesn't quite fit since it talks about the guy's lover and, well, there is no ship in the game. But a lot of the lyrics fit very well to me. For example: "take me to church / I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies / I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife."

I just discovered that "Work Song" by him works, too. "I was three days on a drunken sin / I woke with her walls around me / nothin in her room but an empty crib." It's uncanny, man.

And again, doesn't quite work, because no canon ships. Although I could see the shippers in the fandom latching onto it something fierce.

That one is good, too! I now need to put these on my BioShock playlist.

I'm going to listen to Cherub Rock now.

I don't know why but "On Fire" by Switchfoot has always been a House/Wilson song to me. Same for "Stab My Back" by The All-American Rejects and Big Boss/Ocelot. Neither are even close to perfect fits, but my head doesn't care about that.

It just seems to have been written specifically for people who ship.

Ahhhhhh, yes. I love that song, and it fits so many ships.

"Demons" by Imagine Dragons is the song that makes me almost like Twilight.

"Home" by Philip Phillips is the opening credits theme song for the present-day Anne of Green Gables TV show that only exists in my head. "Gone, Gone, Gone" by the same artist and "Bonfire Heart" by James Blunt are my painfully earnest Gilbert Blythe love themes.

I have associated The Dixie Chicks' "Truth #2" with The Blue Castle ever since the summer I convinced everyone in my family to read The Blue Castle. It's because of all the fiddling! And the lyrics!

"Always Gold" by Radical Face is the perfect Thor&Loki broship song (with the exception of the "and you never saw New York"-line, you just tried to destroy it instead)

Starting Over by Macklemore reminds me of Stephen Holder from The Killing.

This is really dumb, but "White Wedding" (Billy Idol) is strongly linked in my mind to 1990's-era Wonder Woman, and the rivalry between Diana and Artemis.

"Hey, little sister," sounds like the mocking way they would address each other.

"Who's your superman?" almost fits because Diana had a crush on Superman, or because she's superhuman?

And, "nice day to start again," reflects the fact that the Wonder Woman franchise is prone to crazy reboots.

It makes no sense. But I was really into Wonder Woman, OK?
