How I solve mysteries

(Anonymous) 2014-09-08 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Story: *begins*
Me: Look at this character. If I were the protagonist, that's who I'd least suspect. There is absolutely zero evidence pointing to this person. It's gotta be them.
Story: *ends*
Me: Haha I was right

I've turned this into an art form, and it annoys the shit out of friends I watch this stuff with. It saddens me that people don't want me to share my gift :(

I do this too, but in the end I'm less "Haha I was right" and more "Seriously? You won't even bother to explain that properly and instead go with that person is just crazy and/or evil?! And you didn't even go back to check if your story still makes sense after the reveal?! God, I'd take the butler did it over this you'll never guess who the murderer is bullshit any day if the butler at least had a reasonable motive."

You should try the In Death series. Minor character introduced in the background, but given a name? Yep, that's the guy. Or sometimes girl, but usually the ones with female murderers are known from the start and it's about catching them.
