They did a shitty job developing her character, and the forced unbelievable romance and the fact they made it clear she lost all independence in the second film because Thor the Hunk left made it all worse.
All the human characters suck in the Thor films, and Jane is done the least justice because she suffers from Bland Love Interest Syndrome. There's no denying her characterization in the second film was bullshit. Giving up science because the dude she knew a week left and isn't over it two years later? Fuck off, Marvel. She did nothing in the sequel film except some science bullshit at the end. (And, literally, her only motivation to investigate the building in the beginning of the film was 100% Thor related.)

I think this is going to boil down to irreconcilable differences, but fundamentally disagree with what you're saying here.
