Do you give any blame to the people who are using them as an excuse to dismiss valid arguments just because they happen to use some of the same words? Personally I don't like either group, but most people seem to blame the SJWs entirely when I think other people share at least some of the blame.

Oh, absolutely. But it traces back to the vitriolic SJW uprising in the first place-- many of the people I've spoken to about actual social issues were much, much, much more receptive to new ideas and ways of thinking before this whole bullshit started.

People tend to get turned off when others scream in their faces about how they're everything that's wrong with the world and they should kill themselves (and I'm honestly not being hyperbolic here, I've seen it more times than I can count), and I don't blame them. That's not the way to enact social change. That's being a disgusting human being in an echo chamber of other disgusting human beings telling you that you're doing the right thing.

And I'm saying all this as a social activist. It's beyond frustrating, because it allows people with set, damaging ways to shut down conversations before they start, and none of us get anywhere.

Do you think that people who are ostensibly trying to effect change should be held to higher standards than the people who are against that change? That's the impression I get a lot. I'm not okay with death threats and personal insults and I criticize them no matter who is doing that, but I tend to see more criticism of SJWs doing those things than the anti-SJ people who are often doing the same things. Is it the disappointment of people taking a good cause and making it look bad? Is it looking at the group that is embracing prejudice and saying "fuck them, I never expected any better from them anyway"? I can understand if that's the case, but I still prefer to keep criticizing the specific behaviors I have a problem with no matter who is doing it.
