I'm still trying to logically wrap my mind around that game [it just makes no sense]

I think that must be the whole point, but it confuses me too. I don't know how you even get the premise of that game, (Well, okay, maybe while high), much less how you convince others to help with it, then consumers to buy it. In a way it's kind of awesome that it even happened.

I recently bought Hatoful Boyfriend on Steam. It's... actually really good IMO. Like, on the surface it's just silly fluff, and it's definitely repetitive (the routes all run along the same timeline, with only the major events being different), but some of the routes get into some genuinely sweet/poignant material. One of the routes gets really, really dark, even. And when you unlock BBL/Hurtful Boyfriend, shit gets real.

tl;dr I like the stupid pigeon boyfriend game and that's terrible.

it works as kind of a deconstruction of dating sims, tbh. it has all the familiar tropes, but with the shiny handsome men removed. which, being that the entire point of dating games is the handsome men, makes it a little inherently comical? it's sort of like those art projects where you intentionally simplify a well known logo into the absolute bare minimum of what is needed to make it recognizable. how much can you enjoy a dating sim with all the men replaced by pigeons? as it turns out for a lot of people... a whole lot.
