I said this back in 2012: "With Sasuke, it's almost like Kishimoto keeps using him to develop other characters, so his behavior changes according to what those characters need. With Naruto, he's a heartless murderer, because Naruto needs someone to save. With Itachi, he's a loyal kid brother, because Itachi needs to be redeemed. It's weird."

Sasuke has only existed as a plot device for a long time now. Right now, he's Naruto's foil so Naruto can do what he promised he would years ago, save Sasuke from himself and bring him home. It doesn't matter that Sasuke should have enough brain cells to rub together by now to know better than this, it has to happen for the sake of Naruto's character arc, and fuck any consistency in Sasuke's arc.

2012 was probably around the time I finally gave up being invested in this series. I'd given up Sasuke's character a little while before that, likely due to the reason you stated.
