Tech Help Thread

I wanted to install and run this program: http://www.soimort.org/you-get/

Can somebody please help explain to me how, as I've never used Python. I can't make heads or tails of this.

I haven't used Python before, but you'll need to install it if you don't have it (there's a link under the "Dependencies" heading). I'm assuming you're on Windows? To use the Python script you'll also need some sort of terminal emulator to type your text commands into (the lines like "you-get -i http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGwy8DsUJ4M"). On a Mac you can just use the built-in Terminal program, but for Windows you'll have to install it separately - something like PuTTY would work. Then I think you should be able to follow the directions on the page you linked.

Not sure if this is helpful at all, but I like the DownloadHelper extension on Firefox for downloading off YouTube and elsewhere, if that would do what you need this program for.

Yes, I use Windows. Ah I think you're right, I do need that terminal emulator thingy... I'll try PuTTY.

I'm trying to DL from MioMio. So far I haven't found other programs that says they can :/

I tried one of the videos on the MioMio front page (http://www.miomio.tv/watch/cc88912/), and it seemed to work for me. It does save as a .flv file, so I used VLC player to play it (if you don't have it, it's awesome because it works on practically anything without having to download specific codecs and stuff).

This is the extension I use, btw: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/ Hope it works for you!

(DW logged me out, too lazy to log in back)

Oh wow, really? I'll try the addon first, then, I still find the idea of using the emulator thingy daunting. Electronics fall apart around me just with me looking at them.I don't want to risk my laptop blowing up...

Um, sorry can I ask one more question, I wonder if I'm doing something wrong, cause it won't DL this: http://www.miomio.tv/watch/cc94239/ for me...

The ballon-like logo's supposed to move around when it detected a flash vid it can DL, right? But it's not doing that for me.

Yeah, it looks like this: http://imgur.com/paElKOb

Did you click on the video to play it first? You don't have to play the whole thing through, but I think it doesn't recognize the downloadability until you click on the video.

Hmm, sorry I don't know what could be wrong then. :/
