Sandman, though.

No, fair enough, I'm not crazy about most of his stuff outside Sandman and maybe American Gods if I'm honest. There's no law saying you have to like Gaiman.

Neverwhere was my first, then Sandman, and then I read a bunch more by him - but Sandman is my absolute favorite of his, and the only one that's really stood up to rereads for me.

I'll always be grateful to Sandman. It was the first time I ever read something and consciously understood "I can see why this is good and why people like it. I really respect the writer and think this is a great series. But I don't personally care for it."

It was something of a revelation to be able to identify and articulate the difference between "well-written" and "interesting to me personally"
