Re: Shows/fandoms that you swore you'd never quite until you did

I ended up watching SGA to the end, but I only liked seasons 1-3. It went off the rails once Weir left. And the sad thing is, Carter is my favorite SG1 character. But she didn't work on SGA, all the SGA plotlines and characters went off the deep end, and it just wasn't any good. Woolsey actually worked okay in season 5, but the general plotlines and the way the SGA characters were excused for everything they did and the morals of some of the storylines was just not good.

SG1 never made me mad either, even though there is a clear loss of quality in seasons 9 and 10. But I never actively got mad the way things in season 4 and 5 of SGA made me.

AYRT. Oh yeah I really like Carter as well but I agree, she didn't work on SGA at all. She didn't mesh with the other characters well and she wasn't good in a leadership position. She was also too much of a rival for Rodney when it was established how much more talented she is in Sg-1 and yet SGA heavily relied on Rodney being a genius to move their plots along.

I still don't understand why they just threw Weir under the bus. The character relationships worked a lot better when she was around.

Seasons 9 and 10 of Sg-1 still at least felt fun, I started to feel like I wasn't having fun watching SGA so I dropped it. I tried here and there to get back into it and I did watch a few season 5 episodes and kept up with what happened, but nothing they did made me want to go back. I usually just ended up feeling justified not watching anymore.

I think the reason that Carter didn't work is because they didn't do the little filler bits with her.

What I mean:

Elizabeth often wasn't a big part of any given episode. Often times, her screen time would be a matter of minutes each episode. But they would show her sending the team off through the Gate, worrying about them if they were late, and then receiving them when they came back. They didn't do that with Sam. There might be two or three episodes in a row where she just didn't appear at all. It made it seem like she just wasn't around.

AYRT. Looking back I can see what you mean. I think that partially bugged me too because they made Carter such a non entity on SGA and it felt like a waste of a good character.

Writing was just falling apart in general when Carter came on, many of the problems would have been there still even if they had not brought her on.

*nods nods*

It just didn't make a lot of sense. They could have filmed all her filler bits for a whole episode in like a day. And it would made her seem like a real part of Atlantis.
