I still think season one of Community was going a way better direction, though I seem to be in the minority there. I liked that the pop culture references were more subtle and less insane. I think it definitely needed improvement, but where it went really... wasn't. It became almost sci fi or even along the lines of a sketch comedy with a canon base.

I loved the first two seasons and liked the third season well enough. I agree about the references; there was a point where the show started getting too meta and was dancing around the broken rubble that used to be the fourth wall. Too much of a good thing and all that jazz.
