The baby should be properly toasted to, so he/she will be healthy and grow big, but really it's just an excuse to celebrate.
Also, sister in law doesn't want my brother to hold her hand etc. during the labor and given the overprotective tendencies that awaken in him and no one even knew about, little bit of alcohol should stop him from going crazy with worry, hopefully.

When you said "the baby should be properly toasted" for a second I thought you meant it literally.

Like, toasted in a toaster until crispy and brown.
