I never saw Bashir/O'Brien as a romantic thing, either, but I've seen a lot of fanworks that cropped up when even more focus moved to their relationship (and... in all the years since, I suppose), so I know that for some people it became sort of more slash-worthy after some of those scenes.

But yeah, I totally get where you're coming from.
