Demisexuality pisses me off

(Anonymous) 2014-09-12 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
It seriously seems to me like just a way for people to feel special about themselves.

The demisexuals I've come across all admit attraction to people they don't know and have no connection to. They'll even gush about how they want to "fuck" those people. But apparently that doesn't count, because in practice, they've only had sex with people they've felt "connected" to. Like, what the fucking shit? Hi, you're fucking normal.

It's not a separate sexuality to only fuck people that you know and like. It's not a separate sexuality to have to be in a relationship with someone before you fuck them. Jesus fucking christ, how is it that you don't know the difference between having sex with someone and being attracted to them? They're two separate fucking things.

And, ya know what? If you're writing self-insert smut, then fuck you, you're experiencing sexual attraction to a character, and you cannot logically have any fucking emotional connection to someone WHO DOES NOT ACTUALLY EXIST.

Explain what makes demisexuality different.

I've explained it here a hundred times and it never sticks.

Don't worry. At least it makes cleanup easier.

It's not, but if they need to have something to make them feel special, then let them be. People usually grow out of it.

The only problem I have with Demisexuals is the ones from tumblr that go, "omg how will I tell my parents I only want to have sex with someone I love?!" or act like it's a huge thing to come out to their parents-when they're all fucking straight. Like really? Stop co-opting LGBTQ because you think it's ~awesome~ to be one. No one is going to try to take away your right to marry someone just because you won't fuck them unless you love them, there's zero chance your parents will disown you because you'll only fuck someone you love.

Heterosexual women with low libidos absolutely exist. That just seems to be what the kids are calling that these days.

Can men or gay/bi people of any gender not call themselves "demisexual" or have low libidos?

I'm sure they can, but I rarely see it.

What pisses me off about it is that it doesn't make sense.

Heterosexuality is attraction to the opposite gender.
Homosexuality is attraction to the same gender.
Bisexuality is attraction to both genders.
Asexuality is attraction to no gender.

Sexuality tells you what kind of people you are sexually attracted to, not under which circumstances you are attracted to them. Demisexuality sounds just like a fetish.

It was a made up sexuality created by a teenager to explain why her RP character wanted to boink all the other characters in the RP group. People...kind of ran with it. It didn't exist until tumblr came around, lol.

I'm personally a fullmoonasexual, which means I can't be attracted to someone unless it's a full moon. Don't hate.

Hmmm. I'm only historically familiar with the term. I used to thinknit applied to me, but in the end came to the conclusion that I just had massive massive trust issues. It was more comfortable to think of it as my sexuality rather than face up to the fact that I am damaged goods though.

Not trying to make excuses for all those ~special snowflake~ tunblrites out there who are throwing labels around. Just, I can see why someone would believe this to be their sexuality.

Yeah, but compared to all those other weird made up sexualities on tumblr, demi actually sounds sane.

One of my favourites:

"aceflux: similar to genderflux in that how asexual you feel tends to flux in and out in intensity. some days you may feel apathetic toward sex, then others you might feel entirely sex-repulsed, and some days you’re just like sex? yeah. cool.

aroflux: similar to genderflux in that how aromantic you feel tends to flux in and out in intensity. some days you may feel apathetic toward romance, then others you might feel entirely romance-repulsed, and some days you’re just like romance? yeah. cool. "

Day in the life of a Tumblrite: get up, pick sexuality and gender labels for the day, have breakfast, post selfies...
