Re: how you handle frustration

(Anonymous) 2014-09-12 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
Ack. That doesn't sound fun. And I definitely know the feeling of wanting to eat everything just to distract yourself from whatever is going on at the moment.

How I usually deal with that type of eating frustration is not not eating, because that makes me think of wanting to eat more, but instead eating smaller amounts of healthier things. Like, I often have a coffee instead of a snack if I'm feeling bored-peckish. Or a piece of fruit. Tin of tuna. And lots of water to fill you up so you physically don't want to eat anymore.

A weird thing I also sometimes do if I have really bad cravings is have a shot of vinegar (balsamic preferably) - it seems to be the just the right amount of sugar/sour to appease my taste buds, and the acid seems to dull my hunger. Sometimes I'm really surprised by how quickly and totally a shot of vinegar stops my cravings.

And then I do something to distract myself. In your situation I would suggest grabbing some music and going for a walk, or at least playing it loud enough on your headphones in your room that you drown out the rest of your family. Hope you feel better soon!
