Wait, what's an unpopular view? Not shipping Harry/Hermione romantically? Liking their friendship? What? B/c I don't think either of those is unpopular here (and I also definitely agree with both views)

IDK either. I don't understand how this is unpopular or why it would be unpopular. Maybe give us a link to the thread in question, OP?

Actually, a lot of people don't think they are good friends at all and/or don't like their friendship. At least, that used to be a popular opinion pre-DH. Don't know how popular it is now.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it unpopular?

I mean, I guess it's more popular to ship, or to love the whole trio, and it's also popular to shit on Steve Kloves for annoyingly glorifying Harry and Hermione and their friendship at Ron's expense in the movies (because face it, that was just plain shitty and unfair writing), but liking Harry and Hermione's friendship? Having it be a favorite relationship? Nope. Not unpopular. Please get off your "I'm so unpopular and persecuted waaaahhhh" horse.

OP doesn't say or imply anything about being persecuted...?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

They say the opinion is unpopular. It's not.

But perhaps I was jumping the gun -- it's just so common on FS to claim in secrets that "This is a secret because this opinion is soooooooo unpopular and I'll be persecuted and the majority will kill me for being different oh noes!!111" that I might be automatically seeing this attitude where it doesn't exist. Apologies to the OP if that's the case.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't feel persecuted at all. i'm barely part of the fandom, i was more surprised than anything. this is only a secret because i was bored and felt like making one.

the latest thread i read here about the trio had a very hostile tone about the subject of "ron erasure!" and the like.

i engage is this - ron "erasure", i mean - all the time simply through my preferences and what i like to discuss about the books. i'm not interested in ron's relationship with either harry or hermione, but i'm always up for some nice gen fic about the harry-hermione friendship.

I think that was more about people not liking harcdore Ron bashing as opposed to those who are less interested in Ron as a whole.

Hi philstar. *yawn*

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
not philstar. i'm almost tempted to post with my actual account to prove it because i hate when other users get thrown under the bus like this.

DA - I have no idea why that person thought you were philstar. Philstar's never posted anything bad, and this secret wasn't bad. So.

[personal profile] philstar22 2014-09-13 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. I don't post Potter secrets anymore and I have no idea about what thread the OP is talking about. And since I do ship, the secret really doesn't apply to me.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't judge a comm by one thread. I thought everyone here hated Harry Potter because of a thread, come to find out it was a few people and I was very much in the majority, not the minority as I thought.

OP

Don't judge a comm by one thread.

good advice and lesson learned!

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Judging a comm (let alone a fandom) by one thread is really, really damn stupid. Threads are usually discussions between a handful of like-minded people, or a couple people arguing at each other.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Their friendship was my favourite in the books, too.

I don't ship them, but I think they would probably be a good couple. They're both pretty considerate and they seem to respect each other a lot despite being very different.

Even though Ron was my least favourite of the three, I thought he was well-written as a young adult. I related more to Harry and Hermione, being an only child and pretty mature for my age, but I definitely had a Ron-type friend. 95% awesome, 5% immature asshole.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I always loved Harry and Hermione as friends - particularly in the last book. When they're at Harry's parents graves and bossy, pushy, occasionally callous and strange* Hermione takes his hand and they go there. That's a love story. Why do all love stories have to be romantic? They're like brother and sister, but more than that too.

*Yes, I know that's Willow from Buffy. But really, the characters are similar in that way...

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably mostly backlash against the films and what a mess they made of the characters there. And harmionians where pretty crazy back in the day. That can't have helped.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I never really shipped anyone in HP, I read all sorts of pairings, so while I would happily read Harry/Hermione, their friendship is always AWESOME.

I loved their friendship too, OP. They had such different ideals and personalities but clearly cared deeply for each other.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I was just talking to someone today about how I adore Harry and Hermione's friendship.

Then I see this secret and I'm like nope. Fuck erasing Ron, Ron/Harry was the best friendship and R/Hr worked well for me as a romance. Harry and Hermione had something special too but their friendship seemed based in head-heart dichotomy more than anything. It was in the text multiple times that they barely had fun together and unlike Ron Harry couldn't stand her nagging and ran from it. But Danemma were hot and shoved together in a lot of scenes, yeah they were the best friends.

Ugh now I'm reminded of how much I hate Harmony and their fans. Movie picture, check. Putting them on a pedestal, check. Ignoring Ron, check. So predictable.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Okay you know what, I'm sorry. It's over and done, I have the books and I got what I wanted, I need to get over myself. You like what you like, OP.

OP

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
damn, son. would you have felt better if i'd used some random fanart for the secret? i did a google images search. the last HP movie i watched was GoF. i'm not a sly harmony stan pretending that i don't ship it for credibility.

believe it or not, i'm a book fan and i feel as i say i do in the secret. ron has been my least favorite member of the trio since 2000 and i'm generally uninterested in him and his role, yeah.

i'm sorry that i'm not sorry people genuinely feeling like this somehow makes you mad as hell.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Harry and Hermione's friendship is my favorite relationship too. I love Ron, but I can't help but feel Hermione is the one who stuck with Harry through absolutely everything. I mean, Ron abandoned Harry TWICE, in books 4 and 7. Yes, I understand that they forgave him both times, and I don't hate or bash Ron for doing so, but Hermione never abandoned Harry at any point. So while I'm not saying their friendship is necessarily better or stronger at the end of the series, I can't help but like their friendship more.
