It is against my will, but I will be learning about many of the items the place I work for sales. Because I am the one listing them on our various sites. Need help figuring out what kind of sewing needle you need? Well I just listen about 40 different kinds.

How to determine what credit card to keep or cancel for my mother. I have to call the companies first and pretend I'm mom first (so I don't have to go through the power of attorney process). Kind of illegal but what does the person on the phone know? Then I'll also need to find out if I can get a better cost of her prescription medicine at Costco. But I have to call Medicare first and go through that process (again, pretending I'm a 71 year old woman).

I think those are the two main financial aspects right now. Also in the near future, researching nursing homes. We're not at that point yet and it's so difficult to plan ahead, but maybe if we get an idea, better than nothing.

I'm not even in school anymore. I'm researching for a fic. *true fannish dorkitude lives*

Noice.

I'm slowly working my way through an academic book on the development of the Yakuza from pre-boom to present in my down time.

The first chapter is entirely on how we define organised crime.

I love this kind of academic stuff when I'm forced to do it, but my motivation is just so shit that I can't make myself do it on my own, even when it's about something I'm really interested in. This is probably why I liked school so much - I could pick classes I was interested in, knowing I would have to read about things in order to pass tests and do assignments and participate in class discussions.

Airbrushing gradients. I can do solid colors okay (most of the time), but I have fancier goals for an upcoming project.

JLPT N3. Yay kanji woo

(Anonymous) 2014-09-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Good luck! I passed the N2 a couple of years back and am working on N1 right now, and the best advice I have is just to read everything in Japanese that you can get your hands on. You'll pick up a lot of kanji just naturally that way, and it's easier to remember them when you've seen them in actual context.

I wish I could take a crash-course in job application re: Oh yeah I really loved all the lab work I did this year as a student and I would love even more that you hired me now as a lab assistant to pre mix toxic chemicals in biological samples for the new students to test and help the students stick tubes in live rats and inject them with all sorts of stuff!
...without sounding like a total psychopath.

Write in an email something along the lines of:
"It has been a great honor to have had the opportunity to work for you at [Name of Company - be careful of any odd spelling or capitalizations they might have] as a student. As I see you have a job opening/In the case that you may be seeking someone to fill the position of [Job Title] I am sending you a copy of my resume to consider.

I hope that you will consider me for [Job Title]. It was a pleasure to work for you and learn [description of a couple of your major duties] and I look forward to what else I may learn through being fully employed with you."

Flesh it out and personalize it a bit.

Attach your resume, possibly in this form:
1. Heading of your name, address and daytime phone and email contacts.
2. Availability - job type and city
3. Work Experience - names of previous employers (including student work) with start and end dates, your job title and hours worked, your pay per hour, your managers name and a brief description of your duties for each job.
4. Educations - Name of school(s), location, GPA, Major, any honors or special awards/certifications you got
5. References - their names, relation to you and contact. Put an astrik by professional references and have a note at the bottom that explains it.
6. Additional information about you and your knowledge and skills that don't fit in the other categories that you think will help you get the job.

Then send it in and hope you get the job.

How to make the perfect sub sandwich. Or maybe tamales. It's silly, I know, but I'm 33 and only NOW starting to learn how to cook. So now suddenly I'm excited about hand making all the stuff I used to only go out to restaurants for!
