:( I feel you. Sometimes I think this is because I tend to get more passionate about things that don't have much of a fandom (a sort of compensation mechanism), which upsets me, because it means that I will likely never be a fan of anything popular.

ATM my main fandoms are ACD Sherlock Holmes, Murder Rooms, The Monstrumologist, and Rivers of London. Bar the SH canon, it just doesn't get more obscure than that. And my favourite writer is a Russian dude whose name no one knows (neither in the English- nor in the Russian-speaking community).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yury_Iosifovich_Koval

9_9 Mostly he wrote children's literature with heavy undertones of absurdism - one of my favourites is The Lightest Boat in the World.

Ha, I listened to the audiobook Suyer-Vyyer (1998)! =D It was fun but too long as far as I remember. Hmm, you're in obscure fandoms, exluding SH, of course.

You listened to Suyer-Vyyer!! In Russian, I assume? And you're an Eastern European - or even a Russian? Wow, anyway, this is the first time I've met someone who even knows the book 0w0

I'm glad you found it amusing! It is pretty lengthy, tbf, and not very plotty at that. You might like his short stories more - especially The Adventures of Vasya Kurolesov.

Yep, and there were nice music tracks on a background.) I'm Russian *nods*.
Thanks for the recs!

Awwww. Здорово, что могу сказать :) That's if you don't mind the fact that almost everything Koval ever wrote (bar Suyer-Vyyer and maybe The Lightest Boat) was children's stuff.

Йай!
Я попробую. Мне нравятся Комнаты Смерти, так что, может быть, наши вкусы схожи. I still like Lingrend books, so...

I love Rivers of London. No idea why the Harry Potter crowd isn't all over that. Any fic recs by chance?

Also high five for liking The Monstrumologist.

You can check out my RoL bookmarks on AO3; all of them are recs - http://archiveofourown.org/bookmarks?utf8=%E2%9C%93&bookmark_search%5Bsort_column%5D=created_at&bookmark_search%5Bfandom_ids%5D%5B%5D=301813&bookmark_search%5Bother_tag_names%5D=&bookmark_search%5Bquery%5D=&bookmark_search%5Brec%5D=0&bookmark_search%5Bwith_notes%5D=0&commit=Sort+and+Filter&user_id=plumedy

(sorry about the longass url).

I have an affinity for sappy gen, though, and I'm unsure if that's your cup of tea. If you prefer shippy fic, there was a nice case story a while ago: http://archiveofourown.org/works/1391131/chapters/2914315 (How You Keep Breathing by Linpatootie).

Also, two gen case things I still haven't got my hands on but believe will turn out to be good:
https://archiveofourown.org/works/599621 (Though I Sang In My Chains Like the Sea by lightgetsin)

http://archiveofourown.org/works/1805923/chapters/3874300 (Birdcage by Philomytha).

IDK, I may be suggesting obvious things; it depends on your level of familiarity with the fandom, of course. But I don't think there's anything out there that isn't a part of the AO3 collection.

*high fives back* :)

Maybe the Rivers series isn't more popular because it isn't made into a TV show yet. Sadly, a lot of members of the biggest fanbases are only there because of the screen versions (cue LoTR, HP, Sherlock Holmes).

Thank you so much for the recs. :)

I'm really not sure about the tv adaption. Could be the most awesome thing ever and I've seen a lot of amazing fancasts on tumblr (Alfred Enoch aka Dean Thomas as Peter? Yes please), but it could also be a mess, probably depends on how much control Aaranovitch can keep over the adaption. Will still definitely watch though.
