I totally flounced out of an RP once because I really didn't like the way things were going, and one thing triggered me a bit. The way I handled it was immature ad I regret it.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that. If it wasn't going the way you wanted it to or expected it to, and it was triggering to you, then there's no reason why you shouldn't have left.
