As nice as it would be for the younger fans to "know their roots" and gain an appreciation for classic/older anime, I kind of like that those particular fandoms are much quieter. I'm in the small but still rather active Samurai Troopers/Ronin Warriors fandom (another one of those popular bishounen shows from back in the day--the original show is 26 years old, and next year will be 20 years since it came to the US), and the fandom as it is now is really one of the best fandoms I've been in because it's quiet, everyone seems to get along, and no one argues over ships. It was less so in its Toonami heyday 15 years ago (and I was there for it).

Overall, aside from a few exceptions, a lot of the shows (not just anime) I like tend to be older ones from the '80s and '90s. There's just something about them that modern ones seem to lack for the most part.

Oh man, Ronin Warriors. That was my jam. I need to see if I can find downloads of the Japanese version; I only watched the Toonami version and iirc it was pretty botched.

Actually aside from the name changes, Ronin Warriors was actually pretty faithful. Also Discotek will be releasing the series on dvd in February so if you want you can purchase it. It will be a sub only release since they've not got rights to the Ronin Warriors dub yet.

Oh! Well that's good to hear. I don't remember to much about it but I do remember loving it and also enjoying multiple ships. XD

Yep. I can't wait! It was a really great series. :)

I'm excited too! I'll try to find it online somewhere to watch and make sure I actually still like it (probably, but best to make sure!) and then maybe I'll pick up the dvds too. :D

There's a torrent of the whole series as well as the OVAs on bakabt. I hope you still enjoy it and those gorgeous late eighties bishies. :)

You're welcome!

I watched the syndicated version before it hit Toonami.

OT, but why did you decide to change your name?

I wanted to become more active on DW since tumblr has been not fun for a while but I wanted a new journal (mostly because my tags on [personal profile] nan are so disorganized!). I kept nan since that's been in my online name in some way or another for like....ten years, I guess? And I'm super into TMNT right now so nanslice I became! :3

It has been years since I've seen YST/RW, but I'm glad to hear the fandom is still active. I plan on picking up Discotek's release and maybe try to get into the fandom. Never been in it and ever since gearing about the license rescue, I've been thinking about dipping my toe in. And <3 your icon. So pretty. God, I wonder if I can pick up the artbooks for this series somewhere, the few scans I've seen are absolutely gorgeous.

Anyway, I can agree somewhat. Quieter fandons are nice, especialkt if there's no shipping wars, but they can be rather clique-ish. That and there's not an abundance of new fanart, doijins, and fic coming out. How active is the YST fandom in that regard?
