That's basically the plot of the Phoenix Wright games.

Not...entirely? I've played most of the Phoenix Wright games and I can't remember a specific case like that. Also, the concept in my head is a lot less happy-go-lucky, and the probably guilty guy gets cleared of all charges. It's more an exploration of ethics and morality, now that I think about it--how do you decide what the right thing to do is, even if it means that a murderer goes free?

There's one case where your client is guilty, but it's not like your concept. It takes a while for Phoenix to find out and he only keeps defending them because they have a hostage.
