Funny story. I was at my first Mandatory Social Time at my new company, and it is universally known at said company that I LOOOVE Sailormoon. I work with a ton of otaku, so it's totally common to see people's anime of choice on their desktops, cell phones or whatever, and I am no exception.

One of my assistants came up to me during this event, and showed me a picture of the Sailormoon pens I had, and asked me if I have all of them (I just have the outers, but that is not relevant to this story) and then she suddenly asks me if I remember Saint Tail because it was like her favorite anime of EVERRRR and OMG Gundam Wing.

I think she's only about a year younger than me, but because she grew up in Japan and not the US like I did, I was kind of surprised to know that we share nostalgia-fandoms.

However, neither of us could remember Zech's name that particular evening, so we referred to him as "Bishounen Char". (How's that reference for feeling old XD)

I never really understood until that moment how special connecting to someone else in that way can be, because I had never really had friends who were into anime before...so I can certainly understand now the sadness that comes with just...not being able to get into whatever's popular. Like...I know enough about the shows that are out now to be able to recognize which anime a character is from, or know what a Titan looks like or whatever, but I'm just not able to get into things as much as I used to.

I suppose I am very lucky, though, that I have all of that old-school Sailormoon merch to buy now that I am an adult with money, even if I'm kind of deeply saddened by how Crystal turned out.
