Car Question

[personal profile] kaleidoscope 2014-09-14 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a 2008 Honda Fit with this thing on the front passenger wheel: http://i57.tinypic.com/23kaddx.jpg

No idea what caused it, I haven't hit anyone. I can only it came from hitting a pot hole or something.

My question is: can I run my car through a car wash or will that make the damage worse? I haven't hand-washed in years but I can find a place.

You run the risk of it ripping the panel right off.

Oh… lovely. Now to find the time to get it hand washed. I know it needs to be looked at, I just want someone that won't rip me off!

Thank you!

Sorry it isn't better news. It might be worth taking it to your local Honda outlet and seeing if they can pop it back in. If it is a quick fix they probably won't charge you since it is better for the corporate image for them to do a quick adjustment than have you driving around in a Honda with panels hanging loose.

No thank you! I questioned if I should have it go through and I was already weary. Car needs a wash badly.

It's at 56,500K right now, due to have the 60K check up soon. I'll get it looked at then.

You may be able to pop it back in.

Tried that, I need more force into it. Just the little things that bug me when even though I lift weights and I can't do some simple things like open a jar easily. (Don't have arthritis but I know I'll get it as I get older.)

Yeah, you might be okay, but you might also loosen the panel off as well. It's best not to take the chance and to get it looked at. You could maybe try pushing it back into place if you're brave enough.

That's not from hitting a pot hole, that's from you hitting something hard enough for the chassis to dent in. So much so that the front corner of your bumper is now loose.

Or that it's just bumped hard enough to cause the plastic clips to jump. Hell, it could just be daily use has caused the crappy plastic to work loose.

Are we looking at the same image? Because I can see the actual dent. Either I'm going blind or...

We'll need to wait for the OP, but it looks more like a reflection in the paint to me.

I'd avoid the kind of car wash with brushes until you can get it popped back in, but the kind of wash that just sprays should be fine. Really, there should be a way to pop it back in.
