Re: Show me your desktop!
skyrim because, idk, i've always associated you with older and less mainstream games? you seem to take video games seriously whereas skyrim was the game that introduced me to pc gaming so i tend to think it's for 'casuals' like me.
kavinsky because he's super mainstream here and from your music threads i think you have obscure and, idk, refined? taste in music.
it's like in my mind you're the obscure-things guy. sorry!
Re: Show me your desktop!
I'm not in France, so I only discovered Kavinsky through the movie Drive -- and I'm a huge fan of synthwave/retropop/whatever you wanna call it. That same playlist also has Perturbator and Tesla Boy.
It's odd, but Skyrim was the first Elder Scrolls game I actually liked -- but I am very unforgiving of older RPGs with all this tabletop bullshit that gets in the way of gameplay. I like older games but I like plenty of newer ones too -- I see it all as a single continuum.
Re: Show me your desktop!
i forgot that's how he got popular! still haven't seen that movie, but hey, ryan gosling's in it, so i can't be that bad.
oh man, i feel you on the tabletop thing. i really tried to get into morrowind because i loved skyrim and oblivion, but it's hard. the rest of the game is great and i absolutely love the lore, but the combat and the whole skills system are so tedious and annoying i rarely feel like playing.
Re: Show me your desktop!
Oblivion may have been a bunch of bland slurry, but at least it let combat rely more on player skill instead of D&D bullshit. If I wanted that shit I'd go buy a table and some friends.
You really should see Drive, btw. It's one of my top ten favourite movies.
Re: Show me your desktop!
oblivion's only horrible flaws for me were the potato faces and the overwhelming brightness and colorfulness. both taken care of thanks to mods :D the voice acting is still pretty mediocre, but it's more bearable when it comes from non-vegetable people.
i guess skyrim is where they finally found the middle ground between bland encyclopedia people and generic lines with shitty voice acting.
Re: Show me your desktop!
Skyrim seems to have reached equilibrium. The systems aren't overly complex (I still hate the skill system but at least you don't have to sleep to level up anymore IIRC) and racial and gender differences are entirely gone.
