While I joined FMA fandom for the 2003 anime, I stuck around for the manga. I preferred the characterizations, as it seemed like everyone had well-thought-out back stories, as opposed to just Ed in the 2003 anime (with a few of the main military characters coming in second and Envy a third). Around episode 40, I kind of lost my interest in the entire thing with retconning and shitty treatment of the female characters. And the filler episodes really bored me. Sorry, for fans of Majhal or Clara or whomever.

I do like the unrelenting angst in the 2003 series, though. Makes for some fun stories.
