Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Today I had to add a warning for a canon het pairing to a story. All because the majority of my fandom are too immature to deal with the presence of canon (albeit past) het in a slash story.

What a bunch of pansies.

I see what you did there.

"had to"?

(Seriously ... mention of a canon relationship now has to be warned for? I can see if you'd had an extended m/f smut scene, but simply mentioning it?)

I'm curious about waht sort of fnaspace this is - the only reasonable place I could see readers throwing a hissy over het is if the fanspace was explicitly slash (like a collection or m/m challenge.)

This. If they can't deal with it, then they shouldn't read it.

What do they do when they go to the movies? Read books? Watch TV? There's a LOT of het there...

I had several (about 10!) people leave comments demanding a warning. 'Had to' is overstating it - no one technically forced me too. I just bowed to peer pressure, and yes, I hate myself for it.

*blink*

How did these people deal with actually watching/reading the source material, if they're that sensitive?

Ugh, that sucks. What fandom?

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a small anime fandom. Can't really give specifics, as it will be obvious who I am.

NAYRT

Mmm, if that's the case, I think I have an inkling of who you might be, if the comments on a certain fic I saw are correct.

Uh... please don't dox me?

AYRT

Don't worry, I'm not that kind of person, plus I'm only 75% sure I found your fic, since this isn't probably the only case of this happening.

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Awe damn. Kinda wanted to read the comments and the fic.

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, what? That is ridiculous, especially if the pairing is canon. O_o

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Then again, canon is even worse than slash to some people.

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure that's precisely what happened, and you're definitely not being a whiny paranoid baby about persecution you were sure would happen (which in reality would not have happened because there is no fandom where the majority hates het so much that they'd force someone to warn for it).

You sound pretty butthurt tbh

You really haven't had much to do with many of the younger fandoms, have you?

Also, eff off, troll.

LOL, you must be new here.

You must be new to the Internet. You're late, but don't worry, there are still plenty of bridges you can live under.

I don't get this at all. If you dislike the pairing that's one thing, but if the pairing was canon and only had a small presence in the fic...then how is it any worse than just watching the anime?

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks, anon. If the endgame is clearly the slash ship, why is it such a big deal? I will never get it.

I almost want to go write some Free! fic with unwarned het. (As a side pairing mind you - the main pairing would be clear slash) Just to see what kind of comments I get.

Re: Ugh

(Anonymous) 2014-09-14 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It's stupid to write a warning for m/f or m/m or f/f. But I do prefer all pairings noted on a story before I read it.

Is it really a warning though?

(Anonymous) 2014-09-15 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Or did they just want you to tag the pairing?

If they got butthurt about it, then yeah, that's annoying. But ipolitely asking you to tag it isn't really a big deal, is it?

I say this only because when a pairing is canon, it can be frustrating to have to deal with when you watch or read the canon to begin with. So if you want to avoid it in fanon, sometimes it's nice to have labeled so that you can blacklist it and ignore it.
