yeah but if this guy is the kind of person he sounds like, he's not so much thinking in terms of actual equality so much as he has a beef with women in general and would be gleeful at the chance to "teach her a lesson." I've never met someone like this irl but I've run into a TRUCKLOAD of them online. They usually like to pretend that it's a "men's rights" issue and go "equal rights means equal fights" and openly fantasize about breaking some female facial bones if a woman ever lightly slapped them for being rude. It's disgusting.

I wasn't really approaching it from a gender equality standpoint as much as a "I'll use force if it's necessary to get someone to stop attacking me" standpoint, but I see your point and you're probably right that their co-worker is that kind of person

This. Obviously if ANYONE starts a fight with you, you do what you have to do to put them down, that's a given. Guys who go out of their way to talk about how they'd beat the hell out of a woman who hit them, though, really just want to talk about beating up women.

This. The opinion in and of itself with no other context is objectively fair. The people who tend to bring it up in conversation notably less so.

This. It's the bringing it up thing. Why would you feel the need to say that?
