Aw, I love the male judge (bless Nancy). But I can see where you're coming from, with the areas of his personal life that have been raked through the tabloids. I guess part of the fun of it for Mel and Sue is the unlikeliness of his sex appeal.

Well, he's certainly not attractive at all. I don't like those little circular beards, and he should probably dye his hair.

Don't know the show, have no idea what his attitude is like, but damn does he have some gorgeous eyes. He's a handsome guy.

Sucks if he's really a jerk, though. That's a valid reason to not be attracted to and/or dislike someone.

He's definitely kind of a dick now, but he and Mary both were kinder when they first started. I think that it's either partly for tv or they just got sick of home bakers that don't have their shit together. Some of those early seasons were annoying as fuck due to several people. Some, I want to punch in their stupid eyeballs. Others, I just want to hug their heads, even though they said some crappy stuff.

Ooh, if you don't mind, could you elaborate, please? I've recently gotten into this show and I'm marathoning the older seasons and have nowhere to find discussions on it.

I was watching season two and there is one woman, Janet, and she has the stupidest eye balls I have ever seen. She does this thing where she probably thinks that she's looks like she is listen intently, yet coolly, I guess, and I just wanted her to be booted off in the worst way. God. You will know her when you see her, because she BUCKS her eyes at every opportunity.

There's a younger guy on with emo swept hair, Robert, that is a complete annoyance in that season as well.

Keith, I think, came across as childish and annoying. He's 31 at the time and you literally cannot tell.

There's another guy, older in season two, Ben, whom I enjoyed as 'my dad'. The judges weren't as fond of him as I was.

Then there is Ruby, whom I loathed while watching all of the episodes back-to-back. She was so annoying the entire time and so woe-is-me-I-am-dragging-for-a-compliment. I wanted her to get voted off, too. Blah. She's season four.

I loved James from season three. He's an absolute peach most of the time, but he did make a rather unkind comment about wanting someone else to be voted off. But, it is a competition and he was like 19 or 20 at filming. We're all jerks at that age.

Just in general, no one that I wanted to win won. I didn't finish the second season because 1) the episodes are difficult to find online and 2) most of the people are really fucking annoying. I REALLY loved Mary Anne like she was my mother. She was hands down amazing. So unusual and smart and wonderful and just an inspiration. She is exactly the kind of person that people love to judge as stupid and worthless, but she has all of these degrees and makes an effing OPERA CAKE in season two in one of the first episodes without being asked.

Simon, in season two, is like a big pill/douche bag. He went on to show Mary and Paul what's what and he was an absolute ass. I wanted him gone after the first episode.

All of that being said, there are some good ones in season two and many in season three. Bredan is amazing and so on it, even with Paul giving him a hard time about being dated. I mean, the man is much older, give him a break.

Sorry to go on, but this is the short version.

Ahem.

Moving along now. Enjoy the marathon!! You will learn so much watching this show. I have discovered why I never liked certain baked goods, because they were all done wrong. The show will also inspire you to want to do some baking of your own.

He's not THAT bad. Like in terms of 'mean judges', he's hardly the worst out there.
