What makes this different from your examples is that Watson is a preexisting character. Takumi did not invent Watson; Watson is a well-liked character with an already-existing fanbase. I imagine some are annoyed with the changes that are being made because it basically seems like an OC with a medical degree with the name "Watson" attached that follows Sherlock around. It doesn't resemble the character fans are used to at all.

That being said, I'm optimistic for the game. Although I'm not a fan of this "interpretation" of Watson, I like the fact that Sherlock is in it, since that might make Capcom more inclined to localize it. Also, the Ace Attorney series has a pretty good track record when it comes to female characters, so I'm looking forward to see what Takumi does with this.

Oh, boo-fucking-hoo. People need to get over it.

Are you new to fandom? People complain about changes to characters they feel attached to all the time. Just look at the shitstorm that happened when they dared to cast a blonde James Bond. People have a right to express their dislike of something, just as you have the right to express how much you like it.

No, I'm old to fandom and the petty entitled fanbrats that complain because it's not Just Like The Old Version need to get the fuck over themselves. We'd have a lot less problems without that attitude of CHANGE = AUTOMATICALLY BAD.

This doesn't stop people from telling me to be quiet when I complain that John in BBC's Sherlock seems nothing like Watson to me.

I...don't disagree? I'm not quite sure what you're getting at here. You are well within your rights to not like the BBC portrayal. Nothing wrong with that.

I think my point is that for each person complaining about changes to the character, I have seen at least one who is really defensive about the similarities between the adaptation and the original. Maybe? I'm not even sure what I was thinking before but it made sense at the time. I probably should have just slept through this post like I did for the last week or so.
