Yes, because clearly tumblr has one overarching culture. The problem isn't specifically that anyone with crazy idea builds themselves an echo-chamber and frolicks around in it, which the design of the site encourages.

This was actually pretty prominent during the HP fandom LJ years in 2004. It was VERY echo-chamber-y.

This sort of shit is why I sometimes hate the Internet, for all that I love its ability to let me communicate online and do lots of fun things.

Twenty years ago, it simply wasn't possible to validate a particular weird notion that you were demi-Otherkin who wanted to be a potato pronoun this week.

But now, throw that up online and a person gets their very own personal hugbox, and they can get trigger warnings for potato skins.

And yeah, fandom itself can get like this. Snapefen come to mind.
