Your vermin are other people's native wildlife.

In some countries, UK, NZ, Australia, etc, there has been a massive decline in native wildlife (birds in particular) which is mainly down to pet cats murdering their way through those populations. It was so bad that a couple of years ago on the BBC's Springwatch show the hosts were merrily talking about a nest of some rare bird they had hidden cameras around monitoring, when live on national television a domestic cat started predating the next and the chicks. New Zealand is actually seriously considering the outlawing of cats as domestic pets, mainly because people just won't keep the damn things indoors.

As far as I know, the main problem are not actually domestic outdoor cats but instead feral cats, though.

There is no practicable difference. It just suits cat owners to pretend their darling puss has no hunting instinct and is all sunshine and roses outdoors.

A feral outdoor cat is one that does not come back inside. A domestic cat is one that acts in a feral manner while outside, but has a home to sleep in.
