I had a similar reaction to the novel "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" -- though in that case a lot of people I knew who read it thought it was funny, too. I thought it was a good book but more sad than funny!

It's always weird when something just strikes you a different way to everyone else. This isn't the first time it's happened to me, but it's definitely the most extreme! Also might have to add that to my to-read list, looks quite good (:
