I've tried it before but November is the second busiest month for me. I have yet to be able to actually do this because of all the commitments I have every November. I've always thought November was a really dumb month for this thing.

Instead, I usually choose a handful of fics that are stalled because I know the next part is going to be hard to write and I force myself to work on those hard parts. I don't write as many words as NaNoWriMo but it helps me be prepared for writing in the next year by getting through the stumbling blocks and crossing a few things off my list.
