Re: 1 in 5 men abuse their partners

“Over the course of your history, how often have you ever done any of these things (pushed, grabbed, or shoved; threw something; slapped or hit; kicked, bit, or hit with a fist; beat up; choked; burned or scalded; threatened with a knife or gun) to your younger or older sibling?”

"At least once"!!

Abusers, abusers everywhere.

Your definition of abusers = people who understand how research statistics can be skewed by the phrasing of questions.

Lol, more or less.

I'm willing to bet the sibling thing is waaaaay more than 1 in 5, too.

It is like the infamous 1 in 4 rape statistic "study" by Mary Koss. The one where 73% of the people Mary Koss counted as rape victims said they believed they had not been raped. But their questions were so broad, the results were skewed to all hell.

At least once, nothing. I still shove one of my brothers around sometimes. (The one who's a little under two years younger than me and can shove back, as opposed to the one who's five and a half years younger and can't.) We don't bite each other anymore, though, and I don't remember ever threatening or being threatened with any real weapons (we used things like Hot Wheels cars) or any major harm like burning.

Right? My brother is 6'4" and I'm 5'2". A few of our fights, especially that last one when we were 18 years old, looked a lot like the one Happy Gilmore had with Bob Barker, but with more breaking skin and blood. He gave as good as I did. It's laughable to see that as abuse going either way.

Silly study.
