Oh, it's definitely OTT in spots - there is some comedy in it.

She gets out of bed to use the en-suite, but freaks out until she's back in bed (I think it's described as feeling like the floor's moving/sinking under her) and so comes up with this plan involving tubes and sandwich bags but her family tell her where to get off.

Personally, when I've been particularly bad, I have experienced massive anxiety just going bed-bathroom and back again so I understood the idea behind it.

As for your original comment (assuming that was you...), I agree; some of the reviews read like people irl running into someone going through a bad patch as basically going 'Pull your socks up.'
