Since when are slash and graphic porn completely different things? Unless you're talking about the terrible slash tropes of self-lubricating assholes and guys who can get it up five times in an hour, but that's just bad slash, not slash in general. I've read a ton of slash fic that is actually extremely realistic, some of it written by women, some of it written by gay men. Would you mind explaining what you think slash as a genre is supposed to be? Because to me slash just means "stories about two guys being romantically or sexually into each other".

Maybe your definition of written graphic porn differs from mine. If someone wrote Celebrian and made it two guys instead of.. Celebrian, I wouldn't call that slash. I don't call Celebrian "het" either. That thing barely qualifies as fanfic and is pure graphic porn for the sake of graphic porn and every name could be find-replaced and it'd make no difference. It's only about vaginas and penises and what goes where, the equivalent of visual porn where it could be any old dick ramming into any old hole and the people don't matter. That's not "slash".

Slash isn't only about any old two guys, just like femmeslash isn't any old two girls. There are characters and backstories and canons to deal with, or set as a background, even in the most PWP of the genre. Femme/slash is inherently fandom and fandom can't be removed from it. Stories where Sam goes totally OOC and is a fucktoy for Billy where it makes zero difference that Sam is Sam and Billy is Billy is not slash.

I like slash because I like porn where I can care about the characters. Pizza boy and football locker room dude #3 don't do it for me.

Again, your attitude is something I like. You value the larger story, the plot, the character relationships. Sex scenes are a happy bonus, but the real value is a good story that leads to them, and in some cases keeps going long after.
