:( You must have been badly disappointed when you saw the piece. I'd also suspect the artist didn't like how it turned out in the end.

I had sort of the same thing on a much smaller scale. I paid for two wallpapers as part of a charity auction. One of the wallpapers was okay - nothing great, really just okay - but the other... It was a mess. An ugly, ugly mess. I never said anything to the artist and she never posted either of them anywhere so I'm pretty sure she didn't like them either.
