Ugh, medievalpoc. I want to like them because I like mission of the blog but they just make it impossible.

See, I'm not sure I even like the mission of the blog anymore because they're frequently factually wrong. Not about the overall theme, but about many if not most of the facts they use to back it up.

So the "mission of the blog" currently directly undermines the mission of the blog.

A lot of the details are wrong which is why I can't endorse it, but they're not wrong that people have some strange ideas about just how homogenous Europe was before the modern era.

That's pretty much my opinion. But the mistakes are only going to make idiots feel secure in their strange ideas.

I actually hate it because of the "mission of the blog." I'm doing a PhD in medieval history, and you know what, if there were significant "non-white" people in medieval Europe then awesome. But academia should not have an agenda. If you're doing serious work compiling examples of POC in medieval art (or whatever the heck that blog does) from a critical perspective and then want to make a point, okay, great, let's hear it. But if when it comes across like you don't know shit about history, you just reblog pics with darker skinned people so you can rage about how POC are underrepresented in the fantasy genre, it's not a serious mission. (and for that matter, POC representation is an important issue, but no one should ever skew history for their agenda, no matter how noble)
