adhered to all the dumb Disney conventions
I thought the point was to play on all the old Disney movies?
And my theory about the "no happy endings" thing is that since she came from a world with them, then she sort of...I don't know, brought the magic along with her? It's a DISNEY MOVIE. It CAN'T end "badly."
As for the falling-off-the-building bit, it was technically the chipmunk who saved everyone, because he made the pole-thing she was on bend over and drop her. So he was the real hero, which is relatively unconventional, so at least they're trying xD

I guess so, but still... it's like they set it all up at the beginning (with, like, the entire Disney-movie-in-five-minutes bit), and then were like "Okay! Now to do something DIFFERENT" and then it was just all the same anyway... and even worse, because they apparently couldn't think of anything original instead of just cutting and pasting all the old movies together ;_;
It wouldn't have had to end badly, per se... just... I dunno. I felt like the whole movie was a recycled string of cliches dressed up to be something else. I don't have anything against happy endings, certainly not. They just seemed to forget their own premise there.

It would've been cooler if she'd saved the day. It's like, they can't have the woman save the man, not properly, because that would be wrong somehow. To which I say "screw you, Disney".

Ah, I see what you mean. I guess I saw it as more of a parody on the so-called "Disney genre," due to so many of the scenes being allusions to various Princess-centric movies of theirs, like the bubble scene when you can see her in the bubbles is an allusion to Cinderella, and so on. I mean, I was sort of hoping for something newer and more exciting too, but at the same time I miss the innocent and fluffy Disney movies and to see such a naive character was like a nostalgic trip down memory lane. I guess I'm stuck in my own childhood, lol.

Bahaha, yes, I was hoping she would like, decapitate the dragon, but then I shook myself out of my nonDisney thoughts. Though, you have to give them a little credit for their TV shows centering on how awesome girls are and how silly boys are in comparison, like Kim Possible, who is always saving her wimpy guy-friend...boyfriend, whatever. Okay, maybe a TV show doesn't make up for the lack of a movie like that, but still.
However, despite what I just said, I don't really love the lines Disney has been going along over the past few years. I demand more originality and less overt silliness. And maybe a hand-drawn Rapunzel flick. Where Rapunzel is a boy and the Prince is a girl. Because that would kick ass.

Omigosh, I love Kim Possible XD

a hand-drawn Rapunzel flick. Where Rapunzel is a boy and the Prince is a girl. Because that would kick ass.

Also? That would be so awesome.

[identity profile] bip-bebop.livejournal.com 2007-12-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. The idea occurs that she is more comfortable with at least one other person there that she knows and therefore can kick more bum. That, or she needs him to be all bumbly and distracting in order for her enemies to be sufficiently distracted as she sneaks in for the...um, arrest (I was going to say "kill," but uh, no.)

Oh yay, someone agrees! ♥ I've wanted a genderswitch!Rapunzel cartoon since I was like, ten. There's just something entirely intriguing about the boy having super-long hair, and the Prince!girl being all "Rapunzel, let down your shiny mane so that I might climb upon it and hear your lovely voice" that makes me happy. If someone doesn't do it I'm eventually going to have to take matters into my own hands and make a scrawly Flash cartoon. I hope it doesn't come to that >_< (I heard that they're making a 3D *barf* movie called "Rapunzel: Unbraided" or something, but I have no desire to see that because I'm sure she'll be a prima-donna type, ugh.)
